The more I think of the butter sculpting workshop, the more I see how all the great arts are related. The great masters all make it look so easy, till you try it yourself, then you see why they say ‘ never think you have finished your training there is always more to learn’ it reminds me of a saying I heard years ago; the more you know the more you know you don’t know. Back to wado training, there is no end, when you think you know wado you don’t, the same can be said about life, there is no end. Not even death is an end but a new beginning. So dive deep into your wado pond and see what happens when you emerge. Don’t know where I’m going with this but I’d like my student’s to sit back and think about what they are doing, do you come to training twice a week and the rest of the time you go on with your mundane life? Or do you want to merge your training into your life so you never stop learning? I can’t think of anything worse then being like the masses out there who get stuck in their routine and never look at the bigger picture.

The Kear sensei have been training for 44 years and show no sign of slowing down, truly they are some of the last great karate masters of our time.

I’d like to say a big thank you to sensei Reg who drive’s over an hour 3 time’s a month to teach at the dojo, his insight of wado is priceless. Also a big thanks to sensei Robert who fly’s down from Sydney twice a year to teach. I am blessed to be a student of San no Ya wado.

I recently did a butter sculpting workshop with a Tibetan monk; Venerable Thubten Khedup, he would spend 2 days making a sculpture that would last up to 2 weeks.

I thought to myself what a waste of time, all that work and it would be gone in 2 weeks. Then the lights came on and the teachings kicked in ‘ everything in this world is forever changing, nothing stay’s the same’. The point I’m trying to get across is that you should not waste your time training in wado the same way over and over, look at your wado with fresh eyes every time you train don’t get comfortable with your training, try to see it differently each time you train.
